In April and May 2004, two “Earth and Spirit” Forums were
organized. We watched a video of beautiful,
meditational photography as well as interviews with scientists. The
congregation discussed and explored their response to earth stewardship.
At the May forum, guest speakers Hugo Steensma from the United Church
of Christ in Sonoma, Ann Hancock, an activist for sustainability, and
Jacque Lefler were invited to speak about their experience and
involvement with earth stewardship and environmental issues.
The EarthKeeping Task Force was formed soon after that. Chaired by Georgie McLean, a group of
about seven people met every month to plan and organize programs for the
year.
One of the first tasks of the EarthKeeping Task Force was to develop
a Mission Statement which would help guide the Task Force in the coming
year.
